cam rotation
  • Hi!

I have the same sail and used it with North platinum and the original KA mast. I have never experienced such problems, never with the Koncept. There must be something wrong with your setup. It is not the downhaul I think. Maybe the NP CK75 is a bit to thick.
Or: There are not the right cambers on the right place. The cambers have different sizes as far as I remember. The bigger cambers should be were the mast is also thicker.

    Cheers
  • Hi,

If it's the NP CK75 mast i'm thinking of it's too thick in the lower section which is causing the cams not to rotate properly. I also used both KA and North Platinum masts on my 2008 Koncept's and loved the fact they rotated very easily when gybing. Try a different mast mate and you'll definitely see a improvement in your cam rotation :D

    Hope this helps

cheers for the reply Alastair. I used to use a Loft but it snapped it a few weeks ago and the Pryde mast was my backup. So I'm kind of stuck at the moment till I can get a newie. All the cams are in their correct spots, I think like you that the mast is just a tad thick so I'll just persevere for now and 'keep punching' until I can save up the dollars to grab a new mast.

Check to see if there is any spacers on the cams, they look like a rectangular washer fitted onto the batten before the cam is fitted. If there is some on there, remove them and this will free up some of the tension forcing the cam onto the mast. The mast is still too thick but this might help a little with the cam rotation till you can get a new mast as punching the sail round onto the new tack is not ideal as you can quite easily break battens this way. Also only tension the battens to remove the creases in the batten pockets and no more, this should also help
  • Hi Andrew,
All good suggestions here so far. Non rotation is because the cams are too tight. Sound like you mast is larger in diameter than the one you had before. There is no practical way to shorten the cams. Usually there is enough adjustment with shims to fit most common masts but if there are no shims/spacers fitted the only real solution is a slightly smaller diameter mast.
